The FlyRight Handbook
CHAPTER 1. Pre-Flight
1. Drone Pre-flight Checks
Aircraft Physical Inspection Start with the drone itself:
- Check propellers for:
- cracks
- chips
- looseness
- Inspect arms and motors for damage or debris
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly seated
- Confirm gimbal and camera are clean and unobstructed
2. Remote Controller & Signal (before powering up fully)
- Controller battery charged
- Antennas correctly positioned
- Strong signal connection to aircraft
- No interference sources nearby (power lines, towers)
3. Environment & Airspace Check
Situational awareness is critical:
- Check weather (wind, rain, visibility)
- Confirm you’re in a legal flying zone
- Scan for people, animals, obstacles
- Identify a safe takeoff and landing area
4. System & App Status
Power on and verify systems:
- GPS signal acquired (good satellite lock)
- Home point recorded correctly
- Compass/IMU calibrated if required
- No app warnings or firmware issues
5. Flight Readiness Confirmation
Final go/no-go decision:
- Battery levels sufficient (aircraft + controller)
- Return-to-Home (RTH) altitude set correctly
- Flight plan clear in your mind
- Announce takeoff if others are nearby
Simple Memory Trick Think: “A.C.E.S.S.”
Aircraft – Control – Environment – Systems – Safety confirmation
